Pastor Peter Palma
Senior Pastor at Taipei International Church
A couple of years ago I was invited by an ambassador to a celebration at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. It was a major affair with political and military dignitaries, and the President of Taiwan gave a speech. I felt completely out of place: I didn’t know where to stand, I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know anyone except the ambassador and he was engaged with other people. It was one of the most uncomfortable events of my life. All I wanted to do was leave. I waited for the appropriate time, but when I was greeted by a member of the ambassador’s staff and then the ambassador’s wife, suddenly I felt at ease. I felt like it was okay for me to be there. As I reflected on this event, I wondered if this is what it is like for people who visit church for the first time. As the pastor I determined in my heart that I wanted to lead our church in making sure everyone felt welcome, as if they were coming home. In a city where so many foreigners are looking for a place to belong, our hope is that you would feel at home with us. Our greatest desire is that you would come to know the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ. The following pages contain the stories of people to whom you may relate: people who came to TIC as newcomers but now are family. At the end of the stories you’ll find information about who we are as a church, our programs, and what is important to us.
May God bless you.
